We would like to draw everyone’s attention that people in the market have been receiving phone calls and emails that purport to be from well-known retailers but are in fact from thieves.
If you receive a call for a stone from a phone number or a person you do not recognize, or via email (even from an e-mail address you do recognize), we suggest you confirm the order and shipping address by calling the number you have on file for that company.
BEWARE of individuals posing as principals of established companies, placing orders for delivery at a new/different address from that in your files.
CHECK to be sure the individual placing the order is truly employed and authorized by the Company they represent themselves as associated with.
CALL the Company to verify they are who they say they are.
BE CAREFUL of a shipping address that is in a nearby location to the customer but not the same as in your files. “It’s a different ship to because we are opening a new store….” can be a tip off to a problem.
BE SURE that CASHIERS CHECKS are not counterfeited before you ship merchandise…..take them to the bank and verify.
ALWAYS COMPARE PURCHASE ORDER INFO TO YOUR CREDIT APPLICATION/FILES – check out differences before shipping.
We encourage our members to be especially careful as this seems to be a pattern followed by scammers close to the holiday season.
Please inform the IDCA office if you receive such emails or phone calls from any scammer with details so we can share with our members.
